Today my walk was dedicated in honor of:
Navy Seal MA2 Michael A. Monsoor, Age 25 of Garden Grove, CA.
KIA Sept. 29, 2006 Operation Iraqi Freedom
Iraq War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Petty Officer 2nd Class Monsoor sacrificed his life to save his comrades by throwing himself on top of a grenade that Iraqi insurgents tossed into their sniper hideout. He had been near the only exit to the rooftop when the grenade hit him in the chest and bounced to the floor. Never taking his eyes off the grenade, his next move was to throw himself down, holding it against his body to absorb the blast, saving the lives of his fellow servicemen.
Monsoor had also been posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions May 9, 2006 in Ramadi, when he and another SEAL pulled a team member shot in the leg to safety while bullets pinged off the ground around them. He was 25.
He is buried in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
We had a great 10.50 Mile walk this morning. We walked out in the country and watched the beautiful sunrise and then we got to see the buffalo. We then walked up town and stopped by the Memorial Park down town and stopped by to take a photo of the big Anchor at Boats & Harbors. We then headed back to Sparta Hwy. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 205 honks this morning. It was amazing.
Navy Seal MA2 Michael A. Monsoor will not be forgotten !
