My walk today was dedicated in honor of :

Army TSGT Clifford Hughes, Age 37 of Shelby County, TX.
KIA Aug. 13, 1950 Korea

Clifford was a career soldier who also served with distinction in World War II. He was awarded our nation’s third highest medal for valor, the Silver Star for gallantry in action at Manila, Luzon Island in 1945. As a member of the 1st Cavalry Division he helped liberate more than 3,000 civilian prisoner of the Japanese that included over 60 Army Nurses.

He died in the service of his country just 50 days after the Korean War began.

He is buried in the Mount Olive Cemetery, Timpson, TX.

1st Cavalry Division Patch, Combat Infantryman Badge, 24th Infantry Division Patch, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Service Medal, European African Middle Easter Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Campaign Service Stars and 2 Amphibious Assault Arrowheads, World War II Victory Medal, Korea Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal (Korea) and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

We had a great 16.20 Mile walk today. Walked out threw the State Park and back. The weather was beautiful. I want to thank all of you who honked, waved and saluted. In helping me honor this hero.

He will not be forgotten !
