Today our walk was dedicated in honor of :
Marine Veteran Lori D. Kearney, Age 35 of Maysville, KY.
Died Oct. 20, 2015
Lori was born in Lexington, KY. She was a Marine Veteran, serving in Iraq. She was the senior vice commander of the Simon Kenton VFW Post #2734 in Maysville.
She posthumously received the Carnegie Medal in December 2016 for trying to save her sons, 10, 3, and 20 months, from a fire at their home. The boys also died.
“She cared more about her kids than anything,” a friend, Justin Bridges, told the Commonwealth Journal in Somerset, Ky., for a December 2016 story. “She was the toughest person I ever met.”
Kearney was buried at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Ky.
It was an honor to walk 10.06 Miles with Marine Veteran Lori D. Kearney today. Our first stop was at the 9/11 Memorial. We then continued east and stopped in at the Centennial park. We then headed towards town and made a visit to the Veterans Memorial Park where we read some names of our Fallen brothers on the Memorial Wall. We then continued west and as we walked by The Common Grounds we met some nice people and took some photo’s. We then made a stop at the Filed of Honor before heading home. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 174 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you !
Marine Veteran Lori D. Kearney will not be forgotten !
