Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Army SGTM James Gregory Ryan Sartor, age 40 of Teague, TX.
KIA Jul. 13, 2019

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Sergeant Major James Sartor, US Army, distinguished himself with over 18 years of service in the United States Army, 14 of which were in the Special Operations Command. Sergeant Major Sartor deployed multiple times in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, Observant Compass, Oaken Sonnet, and Freedom’s Sentinel, totaling over 54 months in combat or hostile zones. He set the standard for others through his humble leadership, courage, and integrity. Never backing down from a fight, Sergeant Major Sartor accompanied his old team, Special Forces Operational Detachment – ALPHA 0215, on one last mission during RESOLUTE SUPPORT Mission – XI, where he was killed by enemy fire while setting up a blocking position to overwatch his men. He will always be remembered as an incredible Green Baret, mentor, father, and husband. Sergeant Major Sartor’s actions were in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect distinct credit upon himself, Special Operations Forces, and the United States Special Operations Command.

Sartor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster and National Defense Service Medal, among others.

He has been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal and Bronze Star medal.

Sartor also earned the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge and Special Operations Diver Badge.

We had a great 10.28 Mile walk today. We walked out on Northside Drive and then headed North on 127. We made a stop by the I-40 Overpass and then headed back South on 127 and then back to the house. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank all who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. It was amazing. We had 330 honks. Thank You !

Army SGTM James Gregory Ryan Sartor will not be forgotten !
