Dallas George Peavyhouse, born in Crab Orchard, Cumberland County, Tennessee on Dec. 28, 1920, enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Sept. 8, 1939. Joined the 432nd fighter Squadron in Jan. 1944 in New Guinea. In a P-38, he flew 124 combat missions, resulting in 454 combat hours, in the south Pacific, which included New Guinea, the Philippines, Hawaii and Japan.
Afterwards,from Dec. 1951 through Oct 1953, he was stationed in Korea and Japan as a member of the Air Traffic Control. He was assigned as an air traffic control advisor to the Chinese Air Force in Formosa in 1955. When transferred to Albrook AFB in the Canal Zone of Panama, he became the chief controller of the Panama Air Route Traffic control center from 1956 – 1959.
He retired in 1961 as a major.
We had an amazing 10.64 Mile walk today. We walked to his grave in the Green Acres Memory Gardens. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I want to thank all those who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero. It was amazing.
