Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army Veteran William Robert Brewer, Age 94 of Franklin, TN.
Died Jun. 9, 2019
William was born in Cumberland County on May 25, 1925
A World War II veteran, William served with the Thunderbirds of the 179th Infantry Regiment during the Italian campaign. He fought in ground combat throughout Africa, France and Italy. He was captured by German troops and forced to march 11 days before escaping and reuniting with American troops. He received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained while fighting in France during active combat. His battle scars serve as testament to a commitment of love for country and sacrifice, the same principles evident to all who knew him throughout his life. William was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is buried in the Thomas Springs Cemetery.
It was a great honor to walk 10 Miles with Army Veteran William Robert Brewer. We started out walking by Holiday Hills Lake and then we worked our way to town. Our next stop was the Veterans Memorial Park where we read several names of our Fallen Brothers on the memorial wall. We then headed north and walked to the Centennial Park. It was a beautiful day. We then headed towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 252 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.
Army Veteran William Robert Brewer will not be forgotten !
