Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Army LTC Frank Akeley Barker Jr, Age 40 of New Haven, CT.
KIA Jun. 13, 1968

Holder of the Silver Star and Air Medal, was Killed on a reconnaissance flight. Barker who had made the U.S. Army his career, had two more years to serve before he could retire.

During one of the battles, LT. Col. Barker was cited for bravery as he landed his helicopter five times to evacuate the wounded and one time saved a soldier while under heavy gun-fire. For this he received the Silver Star. Prior to that he received the Air Medal for his many missions into the battlefields.

Army LTC Frank Akeley Barker Jr is honored on Panel 57W, Line 6 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

We had a great 5.76 Mile walk this morning. We walked east on Sparta Hwy and then walked up town to the War Memorial Park where we read a few names on the Memorial Wall . We then headed over to Miller Ave. and back home. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. We had 142 honks. It was amazing. Thank you

Army LTC Frank Akeley Barker Jr will not be forgotten !
