Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army SFC Marlin James Goodhue, Age 31 of Sarasota, FL.
KIA Jul 4, 1967 in Vietnam
SFC Marlin J. Goodhue was a U.S. Special Forces Soldier assigned to Surveillance Team “New York.” The team was inserted into Laos on July 1, 1967 and withdrawn on July 3rd, returning to the launch base in South Vietnam via South Vietnamese Air Force CH-34 helicopters from the 219th Helicopter Squadron “Kingbees”. After a brief stay at the launch base the team proceeded toward Kontum City, still in RVAF CH-34 Kingbees. While enroute two of the helicopters collided and crashed. SFC Goodhue, SFC Thomas L. Terry, and six Vietnamese were killed in one of the aircraft, while the remaining team members and crewmen in the second helicopter survived with injuries. The survivors were picked up and the bodies of the dead recovered on July 4, 1967 by UH-1 aircraft from the 170th Assault Helicopter Company.
Army SFC Marlin James Goodhue is honored on Panel 23E, Line 3 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
SFC Goodhue was buried at Sarasota Memorial Park, Sarasota, Florida
He had served in the US Army for 12 years.
We had a great 6.08 Mile walk today. We headed up town to the Pro Troop Rally where we got to speak and take part in the parade. It was great getting to meet and talk with many friends and Veterans. We made a stop at the War Memorial Park and read some names on the wall. We then headed back to the house. I want to thank everyone who honked , waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 123 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.
Army SFC Marlin James Goodhue will not be forgotten !
