Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Navy Veteran CPO Elbert Fletcher II, Age 56 of Rome, GA.
Died Sep. 16, 2022
Emmette was born on January 19, 1966, to the late Oscar Alonzo Fletcher II and Lillian “Maxine” Cochran Fletcher in Rome, Ga. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Eugenia Fletcher, and his brother, William Fletcher. Emmette spent 23 years in the Navy and retired as Chief Petty Officer. He was extremely proud of his military career and earned numerous ribbons and medals during his time in service. Some of these include Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, 7 Navy Achievement medals, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Emmette also received a Rifle Marksmanship medal (expert) and a Pistol Marksmanship medal (expert). After he retired, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Strayer University. In his off time, he could be found tinkering in his garage or reading a book, Stephen King being his favorite. Emmette was great with his hands and could create or fix almost anything.
Emmette was best known for his quick-witted humor, generous spirit, and fierce determination. He loved to make those around him laugh. Emmette also had a very giving heart and would do anything for someone in need. He is survived by his two daughters.
We had a great 6.69 Mile walk this morning. We walked by Lake Holiday and watched the ducks and then we stopped by Boats & Harbors to see their big boat anchor. We then made a stop at the War Memorial Park down town. We seen a couple painted rocks that someone had left and they made a great photo. We then headed back towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 123 honks. It was amazing. Thank you !
Navy Veteran CPO Elbert Fletcher II will not be forgotten !
He was a very smart man and a military man and you could see this in Emmette. He loved his family.
