My walk this morning was dedicated to Navy Hospital Corpsman Chadwick T. Kenyon who was assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, California, when he died on August 20, 2006. The 20-year-old was conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq, when the vehicle he was riding in was struck by an improvised explosive device. Family and friends said their final farewells at the Evergreen Mortuary Cemetery and Crematory in Tucson, Arizona. A service was held by the Marines and Sailors of Company D’s 2nd Platoon, who memorialized their comrade in a quiet ceremony held in the normally bustling dining hall turned somber funeral hall, in Rawah, Iraq.
Chad’s military commendations awarded were Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) pin, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
He shall not be forgotten.
Had a great walk this morning. 5.07 miles. What a great town we have. The support I get is just amazing. The honks, waves, are just amazing. If you see me out and about and want to stop me and talk , please do so.
Let’s keep the memories of these heroes alive and let’s show the families that we have not forgot about their families sacrifices.
