Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Air Force Veteran Gerard Giebe, Age 78 of San Francisco, CA.
Died Nov. 1, 2023

Air Force SSGT Gerard (Jerry) Giebe, Age 78 originally from St. Louis, MO and long time resident of San Francisco Bay Area, CA

Jerry served his country by joining the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base (Air station in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam) in Honolulu, Hawaii and also was deployed to Vietnam. He served as an aircraft mechanic, specializing in C130’s, and C-133’s.

After his years of service, he remained in Hawaii for almost 20 years, working for QANTAS Airlines, and temporarily moved to Sydney, Australia for a few years while continuing to work for them, before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to work for AirCal. Shortly after, AirCal was bought by American Airlines. Jerry dedicated 25+ years to American Airlines as a Aircraft mechanic/engineer and as a global instructor, traveling the world to teach people how to fix aircraft. A few years after the birth of his daughter, he stopped teaching to stay close to home, and continued to work as a technician at SFO airport until he retired.

We was a Veteran, devoted husband to his wife Ana, a very present and patient father to his daughter, Noëlle and committed dog dad to his corgi. He enjoyed family, aviation and traveling. His memory lives on through all who knew and loved him. He’s missed and loved by many.

It was a great honor to walk 10.48 Miles with Air Force Veteran Gerard Giebe. We headed west on Sparta Hwy and took Northside Drive over to 127 where we headed south towards town. We made a stop at the Veterans Memorial Park where we read some names of our Fallen Brothers on the Memorial Wall. We then worked our way over to Miller Ave. and then West Ave and back home. We had a great walk. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 497 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.

Air Force SSGT Gerard Giebe will not be forgotten !
