My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army Sgt. Randell Olguin, Age 24 of Ralls, TX.
KIA Sep 30 2007 Operation Iraqi Freedom
SGT Olguin was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany
Sgt. Randell Olguin of Ralls, Texas moved to Ralls in 1990 from McAllen and graduated from Ralls High School in 2003. During his years at Ralls High School he played football for four years, played baseball for four years and was an all district honorable mention, he participated in track three years and was a regional qualifier in cross country for three years. Randy also played basketball for a year and was in the band for three years. Right after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to Germany and was presently serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. He married Anna Hammer, who he had met in Germany, on December 22, 2005 in Ralls while home on leave. He died in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire at age 24.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
He is buried in the Ralls Cemetery, Ralls, TX.
We had a great 5.54 Mile walk today. We walked up town to the War Memorial Park and back. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 196 amazing honks today.
