My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine Cpl Jeffrey R. Standfest, Age 23 of St. Clair, MI.
KIA Jun. 16, 2010 Operation Enduring Freedom
He was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Ca.
He is buried in the Resurrection Cemetery Macomb County Michigan.
Standfest, 23, was killed in action June 16, 2010, in an IED explosion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Cpl. Standfest was a dog handler with the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Cpl. Standfest had recently suffered a concussion in an IED explosion that killed his first dog. He had returned to duty with a new dog looking for more IEDs when he and that dog were killed. He was a native of St. Clair, Mich.
We had a great 5.50 Mile walk. We walked up to the War Memorial Park down town. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us and I want to thank those who honked. waved. and saluted in helping me honor this hero.
