Today my walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army Veteran Dave Shannon, Age 73 of Crossville, TN.
Died Feb. 24, 2020
Dave was born Sept. 8, 1946 in Canton IL.
Dave was a Army Veteran having served our country in Vietnam.
After his military service, he worked as a county deputy in Illinois and later for the US Government as a Federal Agent until his retirement. He was also a 20 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Illinois.
Dave was a kind hearted, loving, caring man that loved his family deeply and honored God and our great country.
On January 31st 1968 he was in the city of Hue on the Perfume River when the Tet offensive began there. His unit joined forces with a Marine unit there and was in the city of Hue for three weeks of hell with little to no provisions.
Dave was a soldier to the end. On his last day he delivered my Grandson to Fort Campbell for deployment.
Sadly Dave never made it home . He died of a pulmonary aneurysm.
Daves cremated remains were place in the columbarium in Butler National Cemetery in Springfield Illinois.
Had a great 10.63 mile walk today. It was an honor to meet Dave’s wife before the walk. We walked to the war memorials down town and then walked threw the city cemetery. I want to thank everyone who honked and waved in helping me honor this hero this morning. It was amazing.
He will not be forgotten !
Awesome Job young man, wish I could have made it with you
