Today my walk was dedicated in honor of:

Army Spc. Sarina N. Butcher, Age 19 of Checotah, OK.
KIA Nov. 1, 2011 Operation Enduring Freedom

She was assigned to 700th Brigade Support Battalion, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma National Guard, Tulsa, Ok.

Spc. Sarina N. Butcher, 19, of Checotah, Okla., died Nov. 1, in Paktia province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked her vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

She attended Checotah Public Schools for two years before joining the Army National Guard. She graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C., in March.

Spc Butcher is the first female Oklahoma National Guard soldier to be killed during wartime and is also the youngest Oklahoma soldier to die in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Spc Butcher’s awards and decorations include:

Bronze Star
Purple Heart
National Defense Service Medal
Army Service Ribbon
Oklahoma Good Conduct Medal

We had a great 5.27 Mile walk today. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I want to thank everyone that honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today.

Army Spc. Sarina N. Butcher will not be forgotten !
