My walk this morning was dedicated in honor of:
Army PFC James R Southey, Age 20 of Peoria, IL.
KIA May 3, 1968 in Vietnam
He served with Company D, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 25th infantry Division.
James is buried at St John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Peoria, IL. His name can be found on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at panel 54E, Line 29
He is a 1966 graduate of Limestone H.S., and he worked for a year at Keystone Steel and Wire before he joined the Army on August 30, 1967, and did his training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Fort McClellan, Alabama.
His awards include: Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal.
We had a great 9 mile walk this morning. The weather was perfect. I want to thank everyone that honked and waved in helping me honor this hero. It was amazing.
He will NOT be forgotten !
