Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
WWII Marine Veteran SGT Art Buchwald, Age 81 of Mount Vernon, NY.
Died Jan 17, 2007
When he turned 17, Buchwald joined the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He attained the rank of Sergeant, and worked as an editor on a Marine newspaper.
He served from 1942 to 1945. He worked in Aircraft maint.
He went to boot camp in 1942 at Parris Island, SC.
Buchwald launched his career as a columnist in 1949 in Paris, where he wrote about the light side of Paris nightlife in the European edition of the New York Herald Tribune. He returned to the United States around 1962 and moved to Washington, where he began writing columns filled with political satire for The Washington Post.
We had a great 7.73 Mile walk. We walked out in the country. It was so quiet I could hear the wind flowing threw the wings of the flock of geese that flew over. It was so amazing. We then walked back on 127 and then home again. It was a cold walk but we had a great walk. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 146 honks today. Thank You.
WWII Marine Veteran SGT Art Buchwald will not be forgotten !
