Today our walk was dedicated in honor of :

Marine Veteran Wendell C. Aytes, Age 83 of Ozone, TN.
Died Nov. 15, 2023

PFC Aytes joined the Marine Corp. on Nov. 1, 1957. Basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina.

While in the Marines he was an infantry soldier in Okinawa, Japan, was an MP, and was involved in Force RECON. He also served at Camp Lejeune until his honorable discharge on March 22, 1962.

It was an honor to walk 10.51 miles with Marine Veteran Wendell C. Aytes. We started our walk at Ozone Falls and we headed east on 70 east. It was a very nice fall day to walk. It started out a little chilly in the high 40s and by the time we were done it had reached in the 70s. We walked a little over 5 miles to the Lingo Cemetery and met with his family. It was a great honor to meet his family and get to know him a little better. After we honored PFC Aytes we then walked back to Ozone Falls. I want to thank my friends Candy, and Robert for walking with us today. It was an amazing walk. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted today in helping us honor this hero. We had 148 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you

Marine Veteran Wendell C. Aytes will not be forgotten !
