Walter Eugene.Fry
12/12/1929 – 1/18/2022
Walt was the middle child of Charles and Agnes Fry. He had 5 brothers and 1 baby sister. All 6 Fry boys served in the military. Walt served in the Army where he was trained as a Surgical Tech. The Army discovered that Walt was a great baseball pitcher which gave him the opportunity to join the Army Baseball Team. Unfortunately, a screaming line drive to his right collarbone ended his career as a pitcher.
After 3 years, Walt left the Army and became one of the very first men in the Air Corps where he was a corpsman that did rounds with the general surgeon, for 3 years. At the time Walt left the Air Force his ranked was an E5 TSgt. Walt returned to his home in Butler, PA. In September of 1955, he met the love of his life (Mary Ellen) at his brother Lee’s wedding. In May 1956 Walt and Mary Ellen were married. Two years later their daughter, Deborah Sue arrived with her little brother Jim arriving 16 months later. Both Deborah and Walt’s grandson (Jim’s son) served in the military as well.
In 1985 Walt and Mary Ellen moved to Crossville (Lake Tansi), Tennessee with their son Jim following soon after, and in 1994 Deborah moved to the area as well.
Walt and Mary Ellen were married 57 years when Mary Ellen passed in 2013. In 2021 Walt also lost his son Jim.
Walt has worn many hats through the years, Brother, Son, Husband, Dad, Pappy, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, and Friend. Walt was 92 when he passed. He leaves behind his daughter Deborah, 4 grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and many friends who all miss him dearly.

We had a great 5.57 Mile walk today. We walked to the Field of Honor and watched the amazing Closing Ceremony. We then walked up town to the War Memorial Park before we headed back home. I want to thank Candy and Robert for walking with us today. I also want to thank everyone at the Field of Honor Ceremony and everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. It was amazing. We had 133 honks today. Thank You ! I want to give a special thanks to the Lake Tansi Exchange Club, The Cumberland County Young Marines, Sheriff Casey Cox, Mother Legacy, Chaplain Jerry Brownstead, Speaker Cameron Sexton, Cookville Honor Guard for helping us honor this hero today.

Army/Aircorp Veteran Walter E. Fry will not be forgotten !
