Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine LCPL Armando Hernandez, Age 20 of Splendora,TX.
Died Jun. 29, 2021
LCPL Hernandez was an electro-optical ordnance repair technician with Ordnance Maintenance Company, 3rd Maintenance Battalion based on Camp Hensen in Okinawa, Japan.
Armando was a giving and compassionate person even when it wasn’t necessary or needed. He had a heart for children with disabilities but truly enjoyed children with autism.
His mother says that she was not surprised when he decided to join the Marines and follow his brother’s footsteps. I begged, cried and asked him not to go and offered him to go to college and become an officer like his brother. He said he was ready to serve and said something that left me spechless: Mom you always say this country has given you and dad the American dream, isn’t it time we pay forward ?
Also, my sister goes to school because of other service members’ sacrifice. It is my turn and I am ready.
We had a great 7.45 Mile walk this morning. We started out around 5am. What a beautiful sunrise. Our first stop was the 9/11 Memorial. We then headed up town to the War Memorial Park where we read several names on the War Memorial Wall. We then headed back on West Ave. making a stop to visit some of our Fallen Brothers at the Frost Cemetery before ending at the house. It was a great walk. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted. We had 210 honks this morning. It was amazing. Thank you.
Marine LCPL Armando Hernandez will not be forgotten !
