My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army MAJ. Johnie J. Wright Jr., Age 38 of Cookeville, TN.
KIA Feb. 19, 1967 Vietnam
He had enlisted in the Army. Entered via National Guard. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on September 1, 1966. He had the rank of Major. Occupation or specialty was Fixed Wing Aviator.
Wright was reported missing and ultimately declared dead on February 19, 1967. Recorded circumstances attributed to: “Non-Hostile Died While Missing, Air Loss Crash – Land, Fixed Wing – Pilot”. Incident location: South Vietnam.
Johnie is honored on the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC. Name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 15e, Line 64.
He Served with 1st Avn Brigade, 223rd Aviation Battalion, 17th Avn Group, 131st Avn Company.
Major Wright Jr is buried in the Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville, TN.
We had a great 6.69 Mile walk today in Cookville, TN. We started our walk around 9am and we started from the Boswell’s Harley-Davidson Country Roads in Cookeville, TN. and walked to his grave in the Crest Lawn Cemetery.
I want to thank my friend Robert for help making this walk possible and for walking with us today. I want to thank all those who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this Fallen Hero. It was amazing. Thank you Cookeville for all the support you showed us today.
