Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army SGT Jerry Albert Campbell, Age 19 of Jamestown, TN.
KIA Jun 1, 1968 Vietnam
SGT Campbell was assigned to 9th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, B Company
He began his tour on March 26, 1968. His military occupation or specialty was Light Weapons Infantry.
He is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 62W, Line 21.
SGT Campbell is buried at the Fentress Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
SGT Campbell was trying to get to a wounded comrade to help him when he was killed.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
We had a great 7.52 mile walk. We found and read his name on the memorial wall at the Court House and then we walked from the Court House in Jamestown to his grave in the Fentress Memorial Gardens Cemetery. We honored him and placed a penny on his headstone to let him know a veteran came to visit him then we walked back to the Court House. We got to see a little bit of their Christmas Parade. We had no idea that was even going on till we got back in town. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I also want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero. We had 38 honks. It was amazing. Thank You.
Army SGT Jerry Albert Campbell will not be forgotten !
