Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Marine CPL Nicholas Robert Karas, Age 34 of Marysville, WA.
Died Dec. 6, 2020

CPL Nicholas Robert Karas was born in Everett Washington. He is the middle of 3 boys. He grew up with his mom & dad and 2 brothers in Mukilteo and Lake Stevens, WA.

During high school Nick signed up for the delayed entry program for the United States Marine Corp. He graduated boot cam in December of 2004 and officially became a U.S. Marine. He was stationed at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor serving his term in Security Force and then transferred to infantry at 29 palms California. He served 1 tour in Iraq. Nick was a very proud Marine; he was a Marine to his core. He loved his country.

Shortly after leaving the Marine Corp. in 2009 Nick started working at Boeing on the 767 program as a mechanic on the forward bodies. Nick stayed with the 767 program and also worked as a manager for forward bodies and a manager for the LSCC (Line Side Control Ceneter).

Nick loved the outdoors. He grew up boating with his family and spent a lot of weekends fishing, crabbing and shrimping off the docks in Friday Harbor. Most vacations were spent on a sailboat in the San Jaun Islands. He also loved hunting with his dad and brothers and playing sports. He played basketball for a couple years and played baseball throughout his growing years. He’s also a huge Seahawks fan.

Nick was also very smart, creative and determined. His latest passion was making knives, he taught himself how to forge raw materials such as chain saw chains into beautiful custom knives. He was really quite talented; his dad is lucky enough to have a few of those knives and his mom is lucky enough to have a beautiful forged Cross that he created for her.

Nick’s real passion was his family, he loved being a husband and dad. His 2 daughters were the light of his world, he loved just hanging out with them and enjoying their unique and beautiful personalities. He loved to grill and cook for his family; he was a great cook ! He loved family gatherings and spending time with his extended family as well. Nick will be forever missed by his family and friends.

We had a great 6 Mile walk this morning. We walked by the lake and watched a few geese fly over. We then headed up town to the War Memorial Park. We read some names on the Memorial Wall of some of our Fallen Brothers and then we made a stop at the Train Depot. Before heading home we made a stop in the Frost Cemetery and visited a few of our Fallen Brothers. We had a great walk. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 126 honks. It was amazing. Thank you

Marine CPL Nicholas Robert Karas will not be forgotten !
