Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Navy Veteran Sam Shive Jr, Age 66 of Jacksonville, FL.
Died Jan. 11, 2024

I served with Sam in the Navy in 1983 with VA-37 at NAS Cecil Field and on the USS Carl Vinson. I remember Sam as one that would tell it like it was. I got to be friends with Sam on Facebook after our service and we stayed in touch for many years. He joined my group where I sold items to help Veterans and their families. His FB post was one of a kind. We will always remember him.

I will be posting about my walk here in Crossville, TN. We also had Joyce in Waterford Michigan walking and his mother Patricia in Arizona walking.

We had a great 12.82 Mile walk today. We started out walking by Holiday Hills Lake and then we made a stop to see the Navy jet at CCHS. We then made our way to the American Legion where we got to visit with a few Veterans and got to tell our story. We then worked our way to town and stopped in at the War Memorial Park. We read a few names on the Memorial wall and then made our way to the Obed River park. It was a beautiful brisk day but we really enjoyed the walk through the park. We then headed out on Northside drive and made it back home. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero. We had 291 honks today. It was amazing.

My walk with Sam was very interesting . I came out of my apartment and I didn’t know what was going to happen but I let Sam guide me the whole way. Every time I wanted to turn around Sam was there. Saying no it’s not time to turn around. I came across flags at a dealership and I saluted them the whole way through. Today was a wonderful day. it was a brick cold this morning but I’m glad that I did this . I don’t know if I could do this like Tim does every day but I’m glad I did this today.
On my way back I seen seagulls with their lights on, I guess you can say because when went to drink my water. I started to cough. It was pretty cool to see that. I guess you can say the heaven were right there with me in that moment. It just was a wonderful experience..
This walk was a very emotional and also very overwhelmed. I know that Sam was with me. I had to stop at a old car dealership to write this out. I wanted to write this out when I was in my apartment complex but Sam had other plans and wanted me to write this in the fresh air.
I did get a little flag that I put in my backpack and I don’t realize that it fell out of my backpack but I’m glad that I picked it up. And carried it the rest of the way till I put it back in my backpack for safety keeping.
