My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine LCPL Robert M. Gaffigan, Age 19 of Silver Spring, MD.
KIA Oct. 26, 1970 Vietnam
He had enlisted in the Marine Corps. Entered via Regular Military. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on September 18, 1970
Served with Combined Action Platoon 2-2-1 (CAP 2-2-1), Combined Action Company 2-2 (CACO 2-2), 2nd Combined Action Group (2nd CAG), Combined Action Program, Third Marine Amphibious Force.
LCPL Gaffigan was awarded Puple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign medals.
He is honored at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 6W, Line 23.
Robert is buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Montgomery County, MD.
We had an amazing 5.74 mile walk today. We walked to the war memorial park down town and back. I want to thank those that honked, waved and saluted in helping me honor this hero this morning. You all were amazing.
