My walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Army SFC William K. Lacey, Age 38 of Laurel Hill, FL.
KIA Jan. 4, 2014 Operation Enduring Freedom

SFC William “Kelly” Lacey, 38, was killed Jan. 4, 2014 by a rocket propelled grenade in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan protecting his fellow soldiers with unselfish heroism. A true American hero. He was serving his country in the United States Army. This was his fifth deployment and his second to Afghanistan. Kelly was born August 27, 1975 at Eglin AFB, Florida

Kelly enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 2003 and attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., prior to being assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. He has always been extremely proud of his service and especially of his Airborne status. During his service, Kelly was awarded Airborne Wings, Egyptian Jump Wings, three Bronze Stars, one of which has the “V” device, for his acts of heroism, that resulted in his death, a Purple Heart, numerous Army Commendation medals and Army Achievement Medals, a Combat Action Badge, three Good Conduct Medals, a Drivers Badge, Humanitarian award for his acts in Hurricane Katrina relief, and many other war time awards.

He also fast-tracked all of his promotions to achieve Sergeant First Class in under 10 years.
Kelly looked forward to coming home from this deployment and was excitedly planning the next phase of his life.

We had an amazing 6.75 Mile walk this morning. It was a little cold and frosty to start with but the sun was shining and it warmed up fast. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this great hero.

Army SFC William K. Lacey will not be forgotten !
