My Walk was dedicated to Army Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, Age 55 of Schenectady, NY.
He was assigned as deputy commanding general of Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.
He was killed August 5th of 2014 during Operation Enduring Freedom by small arms fire in an inside attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Greene served in Louisiana, Germany, New Jersey, Missouri and at the Pentagon, spending much of his career in acquisitions. His most recent assignment before deploying to Afghanistan in January was as the deputy for acquisition and systems management in Shyu’s office.
Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, was the highest-ranking American officer killed in a combat zone since the Vietnam War.
He is servived by his wife, Herself a retired Army colonel and his two children, one a first lieutenant educated at West Point and his father who served as an enlisted soldier at the end of World War II.
He was a two star general who’s made the Army his life for 34 years.
