My walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Marine LCPL Cyril H. Townley, Age 19 of New York, NY.
KIA Nov. 13, 1969 of Vietnam

LCPL Townley is honored at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 16W, Line 72.
Cyril is buried at Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood, Richmond County,NY.

he was assigned for duty with Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On November 12, during a search and clear mission in the Que Son Mountains, Company A made contact and engaged a NVA force. Fire fights with the enemy lasted throughout the day and into the night, pulling back from the Marines postions, the enemy utilized effective 60mm mortar fire against the Marines resulting in the deaths of two men and the wounding of several others.

Evacuated, LCpl Townley died at the 95th Evac Hospital in DaNang of multiple fragmentaion wounds from hostitle mortar fire on the previous day.

LCPL Townley was awarded: Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.

We had a great 7.57 mile walk today. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. You all are amazing.
