Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Army PFC Matthew Keith Guyon, Age 19 of Fort Carson, CO.
Died Jun. 4, 2020

Matthew was an active volunteer growing up. He received multiple Presidential Volunteer Service awards including the Gold award. He was co-recipient of the American Red Cross Rising Star award. He volunteered with The La Porte Police Dept.’s Explorers, The Office of Emergency Mgmt., The La Porte Animal Shelter, The Community Emergency Response Team, Pipefitters Local Union 211, and more. Our humble and compassionate son who was always thinking of others had a passion for cooking. He was incredibly excited to enter the army as a cook and was promptly invited to join their competition culinary team. His passion was BBQ. He loved to gather with friends and coworkers for a BBQ. His best friends from home, Korbin, Chris, and Isaiah will always cherish the myriad of memories they built together. Matthew lived life to its fullest and had fallen in love with the awe of Colorado. When he wasn’t at work he could likely be found surrounded by God’s beauty in the nearby mountains. Matt had a precious girlfriend, Joselyn Salcedo of Aurora, CO, whom he was building a beautiful relationship with.

His daily texts of how much he loved his mama & daddy will be missed always as well as his dry sense of humor and his passion to always be the best! He was an amazing person! He always put others first and while the world will be a little bit dimmer without his beautiful light here, his happiness was contagious, and that joy-filled smile will live on always. We know we will see him again.

PFC Guyon died in a car wreck when he was returning to base.

We had a great 8.53 Mile walk. We walked west past the airport and walked out in the country. We made a stop at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Pomona and visited some of our Fallen Brothers and Sisters. We then headed back to Sparta Hwy and then home. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us and I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 190 honks. It was a beautiful day for our walk.

Army PFC Matthew Keith Guyon will not be forgotten !
