Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Marine Veteran Dale Davis, Age 86 of Grand Junction, IA.
Died Jun. 28, 2012

Dale graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1946. He was united in marriage to Donna Joanne Flynn on March 9, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Perry. They met at a square dance in Perry and continued to dance beautifully together throughout their married years. They were blessed with two sons Duane and Brian and the boys do not recall any harsh words between their parents. They lived in Grand Junction when Dale was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on December 3, 1951, and served during the Korean War as a SGT.

Donna accompanied him to California where he was stationed. After returning home, he served in the active reserves and was honorably discharged in 1959 as a Sergeant. Dale had worked for Wiltse and Mears as a parts man, and for Doug Wessling and Louie Tolsdorf on their farms and later for Warren Rowles. In 1957 Dale and his family moved to a farm south west of Grand Junction where he continued to farm on his own. After retirement Dale had read meters for the REC, much of the time with Donna at his side. Dale was a devoted family man, caring, patient and totally in love with Donna. His grandchildren were all very important to him. Dale was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Junction and had served in various positions over the years.

He absolutely did everything for his family and his grandkids/ family we’re his everything.. he loved taking his grandkids sledding down his hill in the timber and tubbing down the river.

We had a great 10.01 Mile walk this morning. We headed out around 5am and headed South on West Ave. Reaching Lantana road we headed back north on Main Street and made a stop at the War Memorial Park down town. We then continued north and turned onto Northside Drive and headed back home. Was really a nice walk this morning. Got to enjoy some wildlife and I want to thank everyone who waved, honked, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 243 honks. It was amazing. Thank you.

Marine Veteran Dale Davis will not be forgotten !

  1. Very nice tribute to a man whome I did not have the pleasure of knowing, although I do know one of his sons. Thank you, Mr. Davis, for your service to both our country and your family.
