Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army Veteran Joe White, Age 88 of Crossville, TN
Died Jan. 3, 2022
Korean War Veteran
Joe was active in the Cumberland County Honor Guard and other veterans organizations for many years.
Mr. White was recognized by the National Society and the local DAR Chapter for leading an Honor Guard that has conducted over 1,000 military funerals and for his volunteer contributions to veterans and veterans’ facilities in the area.
I first met Joe back early Nov. of 2019. I was doing a walk for a Veteran Friend of mine who had passed away and he was playing taps as I was walking into the cemetery. I was lucky enough to gotten a photo with him that day. Over the next few years I would meet him while I was out walking with a Fallen Veteran. He would always stop to see who I was walking with. He was a very special man.
It was an honor to walk 12.49 Miles with Army Veteran Joe White. The snow was flying when we headed out this morning. We headed up Sparta Drive and Crossed over to West Ave and headed up towards town. We made a stop at the Veterans Memorial Park and read some names of our Fallen Brothers on the Memorial Wall. We then headed to the Crossville City Cemetery and I honored Joe and played TAPS like he did for my friend. We then visited 50 of our Fallen Brothers in the cemetery. Reading their names out loud and placing a penny on their grave marker. We then headed over to the 9/11 Memorial and then worked our way back to home. Even though we had sleet and snow it didn’t slow us down any. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 315 honks. It was amazing. Thank you.
Army Veteran Joe White will not be forgotten !
