Today our walk was dedicated in honor of :

Army SSGT Floyd W. Hawkins Jr, Age 23 of Beatrice, NE.
MIA/KIA Jul. 16, 1944

He was previously reported missing in action in France, but now reported killed in action.

Floyd W Hawkins, Jr enlisted in the US Army when he was just out of high school at the age of 18.

He was assigned to Company C, 134th Infantry regiment, 35th Infantry Division

He is buried at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Lincoln County, Nebraska

We had a great 7.27 Mile walk. We walked by Holiday Hills Lake and then headed up town to the War Memorial Park. We then made a stop at the Family Ties Restaurant before heading home. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero. We had 90 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.

Army SSGT Floyd W. Hawkins Jr will not be forgotten !

  1. OMGOSH, I didn’t realize exactly how much effort you put into each walk. My entire family is so thankful for what you did today

  2. Thank you! Floyd Hawkins is my older brother. I visit Fort McPherson every few years. Getting old myself and sad to think no one will visit when I’m gone. But maybe some one will who sees your post so thanks again.

  3. Thank you for walking for my Uncle Floyd Hawkins… glad my sister Ann Barnhart asked you to do this for our family.
