Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Marine LCPL Riley Alexander Schultz, Age 19 of Millikan, CO
Died Mar. 15, 2019

Born in Loveland, CO on July 28, 1999
Went to elementary school in Loveland and then moved to Millikan, CO & attended Millikan Middle School and then graduated from Roosevelt High School in Johnstown CO in May of 2017. He left for boot camp less than one month later at the age of 17. He was “Killed in Action” on March 15, 2019 at the age of 19. He was going to be coming back home for a 3 week long leave. he had already bought his ticket to fly home. He was going to be deployed shortly after returning from that leave to Africa.

We had a great 8.75 mile walk this morning. Our first stop was at the 9/11 Memorial. We then headed over by the post office and something kept telling me that I needed to walk in front of the post office and take the side road over to the park so that is what we did. Obrien Drive is the name of the road and as soon as I turned onto the road I heard a kitten in distress. I walked up to the culvert and out popped this little calico kitten. It looked as though it had spent the night in the culvert. I knew that I could not carry the kitten on my whole walk but the kitten was very friendly and she was starving. I was not sure what I was going to do as I have never ran into anything like this in four years that I have been walking. I continued walking towards the park and slowed my pace down so the kitten could keep up cause he was determined to go with me. He was a fighter and I could see that he was not going to give up. Just before we got to Industrial Blvd a car pulled up and the lady said ” you know you got a kitten following you ?”. I said yes and explained how I came about finding it and she said that she saves cats and that she could take her. It was a blessing as I did not want this kitten to get run over. So the kitten was saved.

We continued to the Centennial Park. We had a nice walk in the park and then we headed to the Crossville City Cemetery where we visited several of our Fallen brothers and sisters.

We then walked past the Military Memorial Museum as we headed to the War Memorial Park where we spent some time reading names on the Memorial Wall. We then walked by the Train Depot before we headed back towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. We had 117 honks today. It was amazing. Thank You.

Marine LCPL Riley Alexander Schultz will not be forgotten !
