Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army SSGT Robert F. White, Age 34 of Cross Lanes, WV.
KIA Sep. 26, 2005 Operation Enduring Freedom
SSGT White was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
SSGT White was killed when his mounted patrol was engaged by enemy forces using small-arms fire west of Kandahar, Afghanistan.
“Bob White was the kind of man who always had a positive attitude and a smile on his face, no matter how tough the situation, and no matter who he was talking to,” said Lt. Col. David P. Anders, 1st Battalion, 325th AIR commander. “He was greatly respected by his troopers, peers and superiors alike as a great leader and paratrooper. A loving husband, father and dear friend to many, he will be sadly missed, and always remembered as a fine man who left this earth far to early, but was doing the work he loved to do.”
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Multinational Forces and Observer’s Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
We had a great 6.72 Mile walk today. We walked to the 9/11 Memorial and then headed up towards town to the War Memorial Park. We then headed back towards the house. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. We had 123 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you !
Army SSGT Robert F. White will not be forgotten !
