Our walk was dedicated in honor of :
Army SGT Andrew Snow, Age 35 of Boca Raton, Fl.
Died Sep. 3, 2020
Andrew Snow was born on March 15, 1985 in Springfield ma. In 1987 he moved to Boca Raton Florida where he attended pope John high school.
Only hours after the planes hit the towers on 9/11 Andrew made the decision to join the army. He was horrified that the country he loved was under attack. He chose Army infantry to follow in his grandfather‘s footsteps, a world war two Purple Heart and bronze star recipient
Things happened fast two weeks after his high school graduation he was at Fort Benning for infantry training. Upon completion of training he was stationed in Friedberg Germany
His first tour of duty in Iraq was mostly spent in Baghdad.
His second tour was part of the SURGE in AR Ramadi, this tour lasted 15 months .
He spent six years on active duty and was medically retired because of a traumatic brain injury and severe posttraumatic stress disorder. He received many awards and accommodations including the Purple Heart, combat infantry badge, army achievement award, and the army accommodation medal
He served proudly in the first armored division, 1–36 infantry Regiment as a Bradley fighting vehicle, driver, gunner and dismount
He passed away from a service related illness on September 3, 2020
Andrew dedicated his life during retirement to helping veterans who suffered from moral injury and post traumatic stress disorder. He was very involved with the heroes to heroes foundation and the 22 Project, both dedicated to suicide prevention in our veteran community.
He will always be remembered for his love of country and his passion for helping others.
We had a great 7.27 mile walk this morning. We headed up towards town on West Ave and made a stop at the War Memorial Park. As we walked by the Bakery it started raining but we continued. When we got over by Kroger’s we decided to head north and stop by the 9/11 Memorial. Once we left their and started to head home we ran into a nice downpour. I try not to walk in the rain but sometimes it just happens and I look at it like this. When your in a war, it doesn’t matter what the weather is. You still do you job. I want to thank Grinder House and Best Friends for flying their flags. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted today in helping me honor this hero. We had 143 honks this morning. It was amazing. Thank You.
Army SGT Andrew Snow will not be forgotten !
