Today my walk was dedicated in honor of :
Marine Cpl. Rusty L. Washam, Age 21 of Huntsville, TN.
KIA Feb. 14, 2006 in Iraq during Iraqi Freedom
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C
Rusty joined the Marines June 2003. In 2004 he was sent to Afghanistan serving seven months. In August 2005 he was sent to Iraq and was killed February 14, 2006, by a suicide bomber. Rusty has three sisters, Michelle Washam, Lilly Washam, Misty Day, two brothers, TSGT Donny Washam US Airforce, and SGT Dustin Washam US Army. Rusty has two young sons, Ryan and Andrew Washam. Rusty was given the middle name of his uncle PFC Denny Lee Washam also a Marine Killed in Vietnam December 8, 1968. Both were twenty-one years old when they died.
Had a great walk. What a beautiful day. I want to thank everyone for the honks and waves in helping me honor this hero. They were amazing.
He will not be forgotten.
