Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army SPC Chad David Sheard, Age 32 of Omaha, NE
Died Mar. 26, 2021
Born on October 13, 1988, Sheard was a native of Omaha, NE. He most recently served with the U.S. Army Reserves 2nd Battalion, 69th Armored Division.
Sheard enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2008 and received his training at Fort Knox, KY. He deployed to Iraq from 2009 – 2010, supporting Operation New Dawn and Operation Iraqi Sovereignty as a Cavalry Scout. Cavalry Scouts can lead or assist in multiple combat operations. They are the eyes and ears on the battlefield, and the information they gather can be critical when deciding when and where to move troops. Sheard was awarded numerous commendations for his service and received an Honorable Discharge in 2013. He went on to serve with the U.S. Army Reserves for an additional two years.
Sheard was the second of three children. He faced many challenges during his younger years and felt military service was a way to address some of life’s hurdles. After his Honorable Discharge, Sheard worked as an EMT and Paramedic. He had a creative side, enjoyed metal sculpture and leatherwork, and loved riding his motorcycle. Sheard was wickedly funny and sweet with a beautiful smile and a helpful attitude. He often did not recognize the positive impact he had on others. Sheard adored his wife and children and tried his best to be a good husband and father. His efforts were appreciated, and he is loved and missed deeply.
We had a great 8.21 mile walk. We walked in River Oakes today. Walked by the Playhouse and we were blessed to see 14 deer today. The lake was beautiful this morning and we got to see lots of wildlife. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank all who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. We had 43 honks. Thank You !
Army SPC Chad David Sheard will not be forgotten !
