My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army 1st Lt. Joshua C. Hurley, Age 24 of Clifton Forge, VA.
KIA Nov. 1, 2003 when his Humbee was hit with an IED in Mosul, Iraq.
He was assigned to the 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky
Hurley joined the Army in 2001 after graduating from Virginia Military Institute.
“He really believed in what he was doing,” said his younger sister and only sibling, Amanda Hurley, during a telephone interview from the family home Monday. “The last letter I got from him, he was ready to come home and go hunting and fishing. He loved being an engineer officer.”
Lt. Hurley had no children, but he left behind a 6-week-old niece that he never saw, and he will miss his sister’s wedding. Hurley’s parents currently live in Texas.
Had a great walk today. I was able to honor this hero with a 11.31 mile walk. The weather was just perfect. I want to thank everyone that honked and waved in helping me honor this hero. I even got to talk with a few people along the way. it was great.
I honked at you on 127 north as you were crossing the bridge. I just want to say I have a soft place in my heart for all who have served this country and fought for my freedom, laid their lives down for it, I pray God blesses you abundantly for what you’re doing to honor these heroes, and thank you so very much for your service, you truly do have a servants heart. I hope to one day join you in a walk.
Thank you Tanya, Yes, please join me on a walk. We will keep their memories alive.
