Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine SGT Cheryle Leabeau O’brien, Age 24 of Racine, WI.
KIA Feb. 27, 1991,
She was the first woman in the 1st Infantry Division killed-in-action. On February 27, 1991, she volunteered to be a door-gunner on a Blackhawk transporting the remains of fallen soldiers. During the mission her helicopter was shot down by Iraqi forces – 2 hours after the cease fire was declared. Cheryl, along with the other nine people onboard, died in the crash.
We had a great 8.32 Mile walk today. We walked out in the country and then headed towards town on 127. We saw this great looking truck over by the car wash. It was wrapped in the American Flag. Then we headed back. The weather was perfect. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today and I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero.
Marine SGT Cheryle Leabeau O’brien will not be forgotten !
