On October 18, while attached to Company G, of the 7th Marines Cpl Betty was attempting to destroy an ARVN anti-personnel mine which was found in the perimeter wire of the Company Command Post when it exploded. The explosive device caused the death of Cpl Betty by the fragmentation wounds he sustained.

We had a great 6.57 Mile walk this morning. We walked by Holiday Hills Lake and then walked up to the War Memorial Park and then back. The weather was perfect. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 112 honks today. Thank You..

Marine CPL Claude Charles Betty will not be forgotten !
