Today my walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army Spc. Trevor B. Adkins, Age 21 of Spring Lake, NC.
KIA Jul. 8, 2012 Operation Enduring Freedom
spc. Trevor B. Adkins, 21, of Spring Lake, N.C., died July 8, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit in Maidan Shahr, Wardak province, Afghanistan, with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 978th Military Police Company, 93rd Military Police Battalion, Fort Bliss, Texas.
He was one of six soldiers, all from the 978th Military Police Company, 93rd Military Police Battalion, of Fort Bliss, Texas, who were killed July 8 in a massive roadside blast in Maidan Shahr, the capital of Wardak province.
The blast occurred at 8 p.m. Afghanistan time. The improvised explosive device, reportedly estimated to contain more than 200 pounds of explosives, went off under their mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle. The Taliban have since taken credit for the attack, Stars and Stripes reported.
The soldiers’ deaths marked one of the most violent days in Afghanistan in months and the deadliest for Fort Bliss since nine soldiers from the 507th Maintenance Company were killed in Iraq in 2003.
He is buried at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC.
We had an amazing 16.25 Mile walk this morning. We started out around 5am and enjoyed watching the sunrise and we walked threw the Cumberland Mountain State Park and then headed back 127 and we stopped at the War Memorial Park. What a beautiful morning. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 254 honks this morning. Thank you.
Army Spc. Trevor B. Adkins will not be forgotten.
