My walk this morning was dedicated in honor of:

Marine Sgt. Garrett A. Misener , Age 25 of Cordova, TN
KIA on December 2, 2010 in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Sgt. Misener died serving his country and protecting those who could not protect themselves. “Bear” was known for his love of God, family and friends, and wanted to be a soldier since the age of two and felt he was called by God to be a Marine.

Misener’s family and friends were looking forward to the end of his combat tour in Afghanistan early next year. It was his sixth overseas deployment after others in the African country of Djibouti, a tour on a ship in the Caribbean and three tours in Iraq.

The 25-year-old Marine squad leader, finished his mission in the early morning hours Monday in Afghanistan, killed when he stepped on an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in the middle of the night according to his family and the Department of Defense.

Had a great 10 miles walk this morning. The weather was perfect for walking. I want to thank everyone for honking and waving helping me honor this fallen hero. We will keep his memory alive.
