Today my walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army MSGT Jack BLaine Beers, Age 34 of Clarksville, TN.
KIA Apr 7, 1969 Vietnam
Jack is honored at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 27W, Line 28.
He is buried in Fort Donelson National Cemetary, Dover, TN.
He was assigned to 173rd Airborne Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
A former National Guardsman, Sgt. Beers joined the active Army in 1953 and took his basic training at Ft. Benning, GA., the training school for paratroopers. During his 16-year career with the Army, he has served overseas in Japan, Germany, Korea, Lebanon and one previous tour in Vietnam.
SFC Beers was serving with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rs Airborne Battalion, when his unit came under a night attack. He completely disregarded his own safety and though seriously wounded, he continued to deploy his men and firepower against the insurgents.
Beers was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign medals.
We had a great 5.40 Mile walk today. We walked up town for the Cruise In. Presented colors for the start of the event. It was great and we got to meet a lot of people. I want to thank everyone for the honks, waves, salutes in helping me honor this hero. We had 148 honks today. It was great.
Army MSGT Jack BLaine Beers, Age 34 of Clarksville, TN will not be forgotten !
