My walk today was dedicated in honor of:

Army/Air Force Veteran Alvin Wesley Aytes, Age 23 of Ozone, TN.
Died Sep 22 1961

He was stationed in the Far East. He was home on leave when he was killed in a traffic accident on Roosevelt Mountain near Rockwood. TN. He also had served in the Air Force.
He is buried in the Ozone Cemetery.

He was an Sp4 in the Army, serving with the 519 Sig Radio Company.

Alvin’s from a family that served in the military….brothers Charles Aytes, Avery Aytes, John Aytes, Wendall (Cotten) Aytes, and Larry Aytes.

To honor their brother, my Dad, Avery, and Uncle Charles, both named one of their sons after Alvin. My brother is Alvin Christopher Aytes, while my cousin name was Alvin Allen Aytes.

We had a wonderful 18.15 Mile walk today. The weather was perfect. We started our walk a little after 7am and we made a stop at the War Memorial Park down town before heading out East First Street. I want to thank my friends Robert and Candy for walking with us today. It was Candy’s uncle who we were walking for. It was an honor to meet Alvin’s family when we reached the Ozone Cemetery. While walking with Alvin today we reached the 500 Miles mark for walking since Jan. 1, 2021. I want to thank everyone that honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this hero today. We had a total of 278 Honks today.

Army/Air Force Veteran Alvin Wesley Aytes will not be forgotten !
