My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army Capt. Daniel Whitten, Age 28 of Grimes, IA.
KIA Feb. 2, 2010 Operation Enduring Freedom
Capt. Whitten was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Capt. Whitten was killed when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an IED Feb. 2 near Forward Operating Base Sweeney, Afghanistan.
His funeral was held Feb. 12 at the U.S. Military academy at West Point, N.Y., where he graduated in 2004 with bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and English. Whitten also was honored March 2 at the Iowa State Capitol.
He is buried at the United States Military Academy Post Cemetery in West Point, NY.
We had a great 5.38 Mile walk today. It was a little colder with the wind blowing today but what an amazing walk. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us this morning. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, in helping us honor this hero.
Army Capt. Daniel Whitten will not be forgotten !
