My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine 1LT Henry Harvey Persons, Age 24 of Ft. Wayne, IN.
KIA Feb. 1, 1968 Vietnam
He is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 36E, Line 58
Henry is buried at Pomona Cemetery, Pomona, Los Angeles County, CA.
He served with Delta Co 1st Bn 5th marines.
He had enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Entered the service via Reserve Military. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on July 13, 1967. Persons had the rank of First Lieutenant. His military occupation or specialty was Infantry Officer.
1LT Persons was awarded: Silver Star Medal and the Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.
First Lieutenant Persons died through hostile action, explosive device in South Vietnam, Thua Thien province.
We had a great 6.13 Mile walk today. We left around 8am and walked by the Lake Holiday Hills. It was snowing and the wind was blowing. It was a great walk. We stopped by the War Memorial park down town. I want to thank my friend Robert for walking with us today. I also want to thank those who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero this morning. It was amazing.
