My walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine PFC Michael Francis Banks, Age 21 of Joanna, SC.
KIA Sep. 7, 1969 Vietnam
Served with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Third Marine Amphibious Force.
Michael is buried at Pine Lawn Memorial Garden, Clinton,SC. He is remembered on the Vietnam Veterans memorial Wall at Panel 18W, Line 52
PFC Banks was awarded: Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.
He had enlisted in the Marine Corps. Entered via Regular Military. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on April 9, 1969. He had the rank of Private First Class. Occupation or specialty was Assaultman.
We had a great walk today. We walked out to the Oak Hill Cemetery and visited a few of our fallen veterans. I want to thank everyone who honked and waved along the way in helping me honor this amazing hero.
He will not be forgotten !
