My walk this morning was dedicated in honor of Marine Sgt. William J. Cahir who was shot and killed by enemy forces while supporting combat operations in Nawa, Afghanistan on August 13, 2009.
He was a native of Bellefonte, PA. and former Washington based journalist and ran for the Democratic nomination for the 5th Congressional District. He joined the Marines Corps Reserve in 2003 in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Cahir did two tours of duty in Iraq, was decorated for his service in combat and recently honored as the non-commissioned officer of the year by the 4th Civil Affairs Group.
He is survived by his wife Rene who was pregnant with their twins at the time. His military awards include three Navy and Marine Corps achievement medals and two combat action ribbons.
A true Hero , we shall never forget him.
My walk went very well. It was very hot and humid but i made a few stops to get water. I think I had a lot of our Fallen Soldiers walking with me cause my flag stood straight out most of my walk.
