Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Army National Guard Vet Robert Haskenherm, Age 85 of Teutopolis, IL.
Died Oct. 19, 2020
Bob entered service in the Army National Guard in 1957. He did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was activated with the United States 5th Army. Company D, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Training Regiment. Bob served locally with Company A, 2nd Battle Group, 130th Infantry, 33rd Division. He spent many summer encampments at Camp Ripley, Minnesota. Captain James Norris of Effingham was commander of the Effingham unit. Cpl. Robert H. Haskenherm served through 1961.
Bob married Myrna Brown, the love of his life, on September 22, 1962. He worked many years as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Bob was also involved in farming. They raised their son in the Teutopolis area and were members of St. Francis Catholic Church. Bob was also a lifetime member of Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Robert H. “Shucker” Haskenherm died on October 19, 2020 and is buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis, Illinois. He was proud to have served his country.
We had a great 5.63 mile walk. Our first stop was the National Guard Armory and then we headed to the War Memorial Park down town where we read several of the names of our Fallen Brothers. We then walked back up West Ave and headed back towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 128 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.
